Jamie Taylor

Jamie Taylor is a jazz guitarist based in the North of England, maintaining a busy performing schedule and working along the way with leading musicians across a range of styles, such as Baptiste Herbin, Tori Freestone, Laura Jurd, David Lyttle, Carlos Lopez-Real, Reuben Fowler, Jim Mullen, Conor Chaplin, Jamil Sheriff, Tom Harrison, Adrian Ingram, Alan Barnes, Steve Brown, Neil Yates, Dale Gibson, Mark Chandler, Gary Potter, Richard Hawley, and The Pigeon Detectives.

He is also a principal lecturer at Leeds College of Music, teaching guitar and musicianship on the UK’s longest-running jazz degree programme, for which he was Course Leader between 2007-2009. He is also an instrumental tutor at the University of Sheffield, and a featured “master” on the internationally respected website Mike’s Masterclasses, alongside artists such as Lorne Lofsky, Paul Bollenbeck, Sheryl Bailey, John Stowell, and Steve Herberman.

In November 2015, Jamie was one of the first UK jazz educators to become an eStaccato ambassador along with Martin Speake, and his LCoM colleagues Ivo Neame and Steve Fishwick. Meanwhile, closer to home, he is also Electric Guitar Advisor and Examiner for the organization Yorkshire Young Musicians. Many of Jamie’s students have had successful careers of their own; some of these include members of Cinematic Orchestra, Roller Trio, Bryan Ferry Orchestra, Simply Red, Led Bib, Everything Everything, and The 1975. Thanks to the possibilities of the internet, he now has students all over the world.

Jamie’s current self-directed project is his “Outside Line” quartet, featuring Matt Anderson, Garry Jackson, and Dave Walsh. This group embarked on a short UK tour in March 2015. He also forms one half of the Ellington/Strayhorn project “Intimacy Of The Blues” with saxophonist Russell Henderson, most recently heard at the 2015 Manchester Jazz Festival.
